Samsung Smart Switch  is the first application you should have when you own a Galaxy Note 5.  Smart Switch is basically an application that can be use to transfer data from Android to Android devices. The backup and restore process also helps you to save and restore contacts, messages, photos, videos, and etc from your phone to your computer and or another devices.

There are two version of Smart Switch, the first  is a downloadable App to which you can simply grab it at Google Play store andcan be installed directly into your Galaxy Note 5. While the other version is for the PC and MAC  computers.

The Smart Switch's computer version has the capability to intialized a software update on almost Galaxy Note 5 models including the international variants such as the SM-N9200, SM-N9208, SM-N920C, SM-N920I, SM-N920F, SM-N920K, SM-N920L, and SM-N920S. The US variants also works on Smart Switch SM-N920T (T-Mobile), SM-N920P (Sprint),  Sm-N920R4 (US Cellular).  Likewise also, the SM-N920W8 models in Canada and the rest of North America. While those with ATT and Verizon's Galaxy Note 5 the SM-N920A and SM-N920V might not supported with Smart Switch yet.

How to use Smart Switch for updating the Galaxy Note 5 software version?

  1. Download and install the computer version of Smart Switch either a PC or MAC.
  2. Connect your Galaxy Note 5  using the USB cable to the USB port of your computer.
  3. You may need to wait for a while as it installs the required drivers for your Galaxy Note 5.
  4.  Open Smart Switch on your computer, and wait until it recognize the device connection.
  5. Smart will automatically prompt you that there is a new software update version is available if a software update is available. All you need is to click the Update button.
  6. Just follow the on-screen instructions which will guide the rest of updating the software. Most importantly just to keep your phone safe just follow it all, including to backup your data to avoid losing it as you may also restore it back once the update has made.
  7. If it will will not show you any new update version, you may also manually check the update by yourself. Simply click the
    More button then choose Emergency software recovery and initialization recovery and then navigate to  the  Software Update and Initialization tab. This process requires you to manually enter the neccessary details such as the model number of your Galaxy Note 5 and etc.

When the software update inititilization  started do not ever stop the installation by turning off the device, removing the battery, and unplugging the USB cable. If you interupt the process it may also causes as we calledd soft-bricks, this means the device may not work normally, some problem may occur like it hangs in Samsung logo and or it just keep on restarting (bootloop).

The software update process might take a longer period time and it depends at the size of the firmware version itself. After the update is complete, your device may restarts a few times but you must wait until it stop and stays in the home screen.
